Benefits

Benefits That Last a Lifetime

Army ROTC is one of the nation's top leadership programs, with a wide range of benefits. Through Army ROTC you can:

  • Get help with your college tuition with an Army ROTC Scholarship
  • Gain experience you can't find anywhere else
  • Gain the respect of your peers and future employers
  • Train to become a leader and manager

Leadership

In Army ROTC you will learn to become a leader—not just a person who gives orders but a person who leads by example. Being an Officer in the U.S. Army means you're a counselor, a strategist and a motivator. It's similar to being a vital manager in a corporation. As an Officer, you will lead other Soldiers in all situations and adjust to environments that are always changing. You'll be driven to achieve success with your team on every mission.

Skill Development

The specific skills you receive in Army ROTC will include things like leadership development, military skills and adventure training. This will take place both in the classroom and in the field, but you will have a normal daily schedule like all college students. Army ROTC has two phases: Cadet Initial Entry Training (CIET) and Cadet Leaders Course (CLC).

Scholarships / Financial

Whether you're a college-bound high school student or already attending a college or university, Army ROTC has scholarships available. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's merit and grades, not financial need.  Many students are attracted to ROTC programs by generous tuition benefits.  Cadets, as ROTC students are known, can win scholarships for two, three or four years from the Army ROTC program.  The scholarships not only cover tuition and fees, but also provides a stipend.  Army ROTC Scholarships are a great way for students to achieve academic success without dealing with much of the streess that college life entails.  Scholarship cadets are able to attend college for little or no cost and at the same time benefit from the training and experience that ARMY ROTC provides.

Your obligation with an ROTC scholarship

Your acceptance of the ROTC scholarship means a future service obligation of eight years in the Army, with requirements for active duty and/or the Army Reserve or Army National Guard depending on the scholarship. You may be eligible to serve part time in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard while pursuing a civilian career immediately after graduation. This obligation is generally divided into two categories: Active Duty - 4 years active and 4 years in the Inactive Ready Reserves (IRR) / National Guard or Reserve - 6 years in the Guard or Reserves and 2 years in the IRR.

Scholarship recipients who wish to exit the ROTC program may do so after their freshman year of college without any obligation.
